L Matrix: A Unique Vacation House Designed by Jaesung Kim

Unleashing the Potential of L-shaped Spaces

Jaesung Kim's design philosophy revolves around the concept of L-shaped spaces. By interlacing and intertwining several L's, he has created a stunning architectural masterpiece that seamlessly blends with its environment. Each spatial structure within the house holds its own meaning, forming a dynamic and static relationship between the clients and the surrounding nature.

The ground floor of L Matrix is dedicated to the dining area and a spacious living room. The second floor houses the bedroom area, a cozy reading room, and other functional spaces that allow the clients to immerse themselves in a relaxed and natural atmosphere, while enjoying the breathtaking outside landscape.

Constructed with reinforced concrete, L Matrix boasts a harmonious blend of exterior finishes, including brick, stucco, and zinc. The interior finishes, such as paint, marble, and tile, add a touch of elegance to the living spaces.

One of the standout features of L Matrix is its ability to provide a visual extension of four different environments in four directions from the interior space. The front balcony and yard offer a panoramic view of the valley, while the reflection of the sky on the pond allows occupants to simultaneously enjoy the water space, mountain, and yard.

Energy efficiency was a key consideration in the design of L Matrix. The house features an open ceiling design, allowing for natural light to flood the interiors. In winter, a fireplace and special windows help conserve energy. Additionally, native materials were chosen for the project, emphasizing a return to the simplicity of materials and a coexistence with the environment.

Completed in 2017, L Matrix stands as a testament to Jaesung Kim's creative vision and technical expertise. This vacation house not only provides a serene retreat for its occupants but also showcases the potential of L-shaped spaces in architectural design.
